SSM Health/ St. Louis University (SLUCare) is seeking two academic Neuromuscular Neurologists to join our nationally recognized team in St. Louis, Missouri. Candidates can be early or mid-career, with the mid-career position having an opportunity to be the Division Director of Neuromuscular Disorders of the Department of Neurology for the right candidate. The SSM/SLU Department of Neurology has 32 Faculty members, six adult neurology residents per year, two child neurology residents per year, and an ACGME accredited neurophysiology fellowship. This is an opportunity to work alongside three neuromuscular faculty adult and pediatrics, with a robust EMG practice, the only Nationally Certified ALS Clinic/Center of Excellence in the state, and a developing MDA center.

Position Highlights:

• Flexible Schedule with a balanced mix of clinic, procedures, and call
• Call Responsibility: This is negotiable 4-8 weeks per year of Hospital Inpatient and Consult General Neurology with a senior and two junior neurology residents plus medical students. Call is in 1-week stints (8:30-5pm in house); overnight call is taken from home to support the in-house night neurology resident.
• Clinic Focus: Neuromuscular patient care, nerve conduction studies, EMGs, skin biopsies for small fiber neuropathies and muscle and nerve ultrasound. Those with training in reading muscle biopsies will have an opportunity to participate in reading.
• Procedures: 1-2 dedicated days per week in the EMG lab under the direction of the director.
• Botox Program: Large and growing patient population with significant need
• Multidisciplinary Clinic Model: ALS Patients receive comprehensive care from a team including a dietician, speech therapist, PT/OT, social worker, and the clinic director-all in a single 4-hour visit
• Research Opportunities: For the right candidate with research experience, a research package can be negotiated with research protected time. There is a strong clinical research team with coordinators and research nurses for clinical trials.
• Teaching: Education opportunities for faculty will be with medical students in both pre-clinical and clinical years; adult and pediatric neurology residents and neurophysiology fellows.
• Pediatric Collaboration: One faculty is a pediatric neuromuscular neurologist
• Mentorship: The director is a dedicated mentor and the lead for both the clinic and lab. The Department Chair has 26 years of experience and enjoys growing the department and supporting the growth and development of the faculty.
