Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), Office of the Dean, is currently recruiting for a new Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer. This position will report directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine with secondary reporting to the Senior Vice President/Senior Associate Dean & Chief Philanthropy Officer. This position will collaborate regularly with the UMSOM Chief of Staff.

Job Profile
The role of Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the SOM team within the Dean's Office, serving as a highly visible and credible representative of the SOM, advancing relationships across philanthropic, civic, government, innovation, industry and institutional ecosystems while ensuring the Dean's external engagement is intentional, well prepared and aligned with institutional priorities. This role is designed to support the Dean's aspirations and goals to significantly expand engagement and drive sustained growth across both public and private sources. It is crucial that this position operates with discretion, judgement and understanding within a complex academic medical environment. This position will participate directly in external-facing activities and will function as a strategic extension and point of connection for executives within the SOM Dean's Office.

UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.
Primary Duties:
- Provide direct support to the Executive on a wide range of administrative issues in order to accomplish defined objectives.
- Conduct necessary research and advise the Executive on current healthcare and medical education topics.
- Develop selected speeches, PowerPoint presentations, and other written communication for the Executive to present to internal and external audiences.
- Represent the Executive's Office by serving on a variety of internal/external committees and organizations as designated by Executive.
- Serve in an active role to develop and maintain relationships with academic departments, programs, centers, and institutes in school as directed by Executive.
- Participate in the strategic planning for the school, accreditation, convocation planning, community outreach, and other similar activities initiated by the institution.
- Assist in coordination of the school department, program, and reviews.
- Coordinate and implement planning initiatives for school leadership, including retreats for department chairs, program directors, and senior staff.
- Responsible for annual reports for departments, ORCs, programs, institutes, school standing committees, and Executive's Office areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Master's education, business administration, law, or a related field
Experience: Five (5) years' experience working in an administrative role in a comparable field
Supervisory Experience: Prior supervisory experience may be required.
Hiring Range: $147,000 - $170,000, Commensurate with education and experience
