Position Summary: As a member of the principal faculty, in accordance with ARC-PA standards, this individual will work extensively with principal faculty, the Program Director, and the Medical Director to coordinate and deliver the didactic and clinical curriculum. This role includes teaching and course director responsibilities as assigned. Must be willing to commit to working with diverse student and community populations while building a culturally diverse and inclusive educational environment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and deliver academic courses as assigned
- Assist with curriculum development, evaluation and improvement
- Perform student assessment/evaluations of written examinations, OSCE’s, lab practical’s, and clinical skills and procedures
- Provide remedial instruction and reassessment as needed, including communicating progress and needs to the retention specialist assigned to the program
- Participate in student recruitment, selection, and the admissions process
- Provide a relationship-centered mentoring approach to assigned mentees
- Participate in ongoing program evaluation and in maintaining compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards
- Participate in Interprofessional Education activities with other programs in BCHS and across the university
- Maintain accurate, confidential student records and follows academic policies consistent with the University, BCHS, and the PAS program
- Actively participate in departmental, college, and university committees
- Participate in community outreach a minimum of once per semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) as part of the program’s goals
- Serve as a primary Capstone advisor/reader
- Attend and actively engage in weekly program meetings, collegium meetings, program ceremonies, and retreats
- Assist the clinical team with preceptor/site recruitment and site maintenance
- Perform outreach to program alumni as requested
- Conduct and disseminate scholarship (if on Clinical track)
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
All full-time faculty members, in accordance with the Faculty Handbook of Dominican University, are expected to participate in University life and governance, as well as maintain CME/professional development expectations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a graduate-level degree, preferably a doctoral degree
- Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program
- Current certification by the NCCPA
- Currently holds or is eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
- Experience with technologies (or strong desire to learn) including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, Canvas (LMS), Examsoft, Exxat, Lecturio, Sharepoint, Teams
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time clinical/patient care experience as an APP
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in formal classroom or clinical teaching (precepting)
- A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in primary care, emergency medicine, or internal/family medicine
- Highly motivated, team player with strong work ethic, and possessing a high level of collaborative competencies
- Provide evidence of inclusive pedagogy designed to reach a diverse student population
Physical Demands
- Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
