Hackensack Meridian Health is looking for an Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) who manages the daily inpatient and operative care of surgical patients under the supervision of an attending physician. This role involves assessing and managing diverse orthopedic patient populations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and providing intra-operative assistance. The PA will maintain a safe and collaborative work environment, adhering to all state, federal, and network guidelines. This full-time position reports to the department's clinical lead and Director of Advanced Practice Providers and includes a rotation of holiday and weekend shifts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Comprehensive Patient Management: Guide patients through their entire surgical journey, from admission and pre-operative evaluation to post-procedure management and discharge. You will perform consultations, participate in daily rounds with the orthopedic team, and be the first line of response for post-procedure care.
- Surgical and Procedural Excellence: Act as a first or second assistant to the surgeon in the operating room. You will also perform a wide range of bedside procedures, including but not limited to joint aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, cast/splint application, and complex wound care.
- Clinical Assessment and Planning: Conduct detailed patient histories, perform physical examinations, and order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Based on your findings, you will develop and implement effective plans of care.
- Accurate Documentation and Prescribing: Ensure timely and precise documentation for all patient encounters, including admission notes, H&Ps, procedure notes, and discharge summaries. You will also prescribe medications in accordance with all state and federal regulations.
- Collaboration and Leadership: Serve as a clinical resource for other team members, participate in the education of rotating students, and foster a professional, collaborative environment that prioritizes patient safety and high-quality outcomes.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or a similar qualifying agency.
- Required Licensing/Certifications:
Current New Jersey State Physician Assistant License
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications
Active New Jersey CDS and Federal DEA licenses
- Experience:
While 2 years of inpatient or outpatient orthopedic surgery experience is preferred, new graduates with a strong interest in orthopedics are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge and experience with robotic and navigation-based surgery is a plus.

COMPENSATION:
Minimum Starting Base Salary: $148,803.20 Annually
