GENERAL SUMMARY
The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner engages in activities constituting the practice of medicine in collaboration with and under the medical direction, clinical guidance, and supervision of a licensed physician. Individual will primarily function within the Orthopedics clinics. This individual will occasionally act as a first assist in the operating room (OR) and collaborate with the OR staff to develop the knowledge, skill, and critical thinking necessary to assist in performing safe operations. Additional responsibilities include conducting hospital rounds, assisting with OR orders and checks, handling Urgent Care OR transfers, and performing hospital and emergency department consults. Runs clinics independently or under physician supervision. Reports to supervising physician(s) and designated management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient patient care activities and accommodative services to support the surgical specialty division(s) with effective utilization of healthcare resources.
- Effectively utilizes healthcare resources and communicates with other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient and staff education.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Required Licenses and/or Certifications
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Current state license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with specialization in Family or Pediatrics required at time of hire.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Physician Assistant (PA)
- Current State license as a Physician Assistant (PA) required at the time of hire.
- Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required at time of hire.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Active/Current certification from the Orthopedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB) preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Required Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in related field(s) is required.
- Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
- Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
- Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous Emergency Department (ED) and Operating Room (OR) experience preferred.
- Two to three years of Pediatric experience preferred.
- Two to three years of Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) experience preferred.
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Execution of Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non-Solicitation Agreement required for assigned specialty hired into.
- Ability to travel locally between hospital and clinics is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
