Postdoctoral Associate of Pomology

Position Function
This individual will conduct applied research and extension on precision orchard management and physiology of apple within several sponsored research projects under the direction of the project leaders, Terence Robinson (Horticulture) and Yu Jiang (Digital Agriculture). The person will work at the intersection of horticulture and digital agriculture to develop digital tools for improving apple orchard management. The person will be responsible for planning and conducting new field experiments, analyzing and summarizing data, writing progress reports and scientific articles for publication. He/she will collaborate with extension staff on on-farm experiments and demonstrations of precision orchard management.
Anticipated Division of Time
Conduct on-going and new field experiments in precision orchard management of apple including crop load management, variable rate spraying, plant growth regulator use, variable rate nutrient management and precision irrigation (50%)
Analyze and summarize data from experiments; write scientific and popular articles for publication; attend scientific meetings and give presentations at scientific meetings. (30%).
Manage grants covering multiple projects to successfully accomplish grant objectives. This includes writing progress reports and final reports. (15%)
Participate in extension programs in cooperation with extension field staff to benefit the NY fruit industry. This will include giving presentations to growers. (5%)
Supervision Exercised
This position will receive weekly supervision and training from the project leaders but will be expected to function independently in most aspects of the project leaders research and extension programs. This person will supervise 1-2 field technicians.
Requirements
Requirements
Ph.D. in horticulture or related discipline
Research and extension experience in pomology is required.
Good statistical data analysis skills are required.
Experience with digital agriculture
Good communication skills, verbal and written, are required.
