The Basic Sciences Division is one of six scientific Divisions at Fred Hutch and is comprised of 28 faculty-led laboratories. Research Administrators (RA) provide pre- and post-award support for scientists that are focused on understanding the normal molecular functioning of cells as well as the disruption that causes complex diseases like cancer and HIV infection.
The Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutch is seeking an experienced Research Administrator IV to facilitate the work of our preeminent scientists. This position will be one of a current team of RAs supporting the Division's growing faculty. The position serves as a liaison between the laboratories and the administrative departments and as such has an opportunity to provide a broad array of administrative support functions. The RA plans for and ensures compliant and effective funding, budget and regulatory administration and general administrative support for one or several Principal Investigators and their labs/departments. The RA collaborates with Principal Investigators and interfaces with other departments as needed on administrative and strategic planning and works autonomously to complete nonscientific grant content and tasks, facilitate human resource activities in the laboratories, advises the PIs on relevant matters and develops effective solutions to related issues. This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities
Budget/Fiscal Management
- Participate in strategic planning activities such as setting goals and defining annual objectives
- Develop, monitor, track and project the budgets for a complex portfolio of projects with multi-variable aspects (multi-site, sub awards etc.)
- Develop, run and analyze reports aimed at oversight of over/under spending, compliance with regulations and forecasting future expenses.
- Funding Source Administration - lead the process of preparing grant submissions and post award activities by conducting tasks such as:
- Working with faculty to develop timelines and strategies for responses/requests
- Completion of all technical/non-scientific steps and assigned technical or scientific portions of submissions
- Prepare and review budgets, identify discrepancies and provide recommendations to the PI on scenarios to resolve the issues with appropriate stakeholders
Regulatory Support
- Prepare/Consult/Advise PIs on non-scientific portions of regulatory applications/submissions
- Identify missing regulatory components that are required and resolve issues to ensure successful submission or renewal
- May advise or consult with Center administration on changes to Center-wide policies/procedures and help create implementation plans in response to changing regulatory requirements (e.g. Uniform Guidance)
- Serve as a central point of contact to answer questions and facilitate solutions
Administrative Support
- Identify administrative needs for the department or PI(s); prioritize and ensure related tasks are completed
- Identify space and resource shortages and develop recommendations to resolve related issues
- Oversees the management of projects including occasional event planning and management
- Communicates with other departments/entities on Primary Investigator (PI)'s behalf
- Resolves discrepancies and issues with stakeholders on PI's behalf
Leadership
- Coach and develop lower level staff
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree or 4 years relevant experience.
- Minimum of three years experience managing federal and/or non-federal sponsored research.
- Experience creating and executing strategic plans
- The ability to delegate tasks to appropriate resources
- Multi-project grant experience with a wide variety of funding sources
- The ability to analyze and interpret regulations, determine impact, and manage change
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five years in pre-award and post-award grants and contract management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe software
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, including formulas and functions for use in budget analyses, projections, and reports
- A focus on excellent customer service
- Excellent communication skills
- Thrives in environment of sharing information and learning with colleagues

The annual base salary range for this position is from $93,164 to $139,713, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
This position is not eligible for H1-B sponsorship at this time.
