Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health services for veterans. It operates as a teaching hospital with a 10-bed locked inpatient unit, a PTSD program, and an Addiction Services program, including a specialized 12-bed inpatient unit for substance use disorder treatment. In addition to the Togus VA Medical Center there are 5 community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC’s) within the VA Maine health care system, and the current open psychiatrist position is located at the Portland CBOC.  

We seek a Full-time Outpatient Psychiatrist at the Portland VA CBOC, Portland, ME, with on-call duties during evening, weekend, and holiday hours. These duties can be performed from home and include reviewing referrals for admission to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Togus and providing psychiatric consultation to the Togus Emergency Department. On-call duties are rotated, with members being able to easily trade hours.

Requirements

•          Full, active, and unrestricted license, Degree of Doctor of Medicine
•          Must be Board Eligible
•          U.S. Citizenship – All qualified candidates encouraged to apply.  Open to U.S. Citizens, but non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, free liability protection with tail coverage, and Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): A student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
