Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (Harbor-UCLA) is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center in Torrance, California. Harbor-UCLA serves as a crucial Department of Health Services (DHS) safety net hospital for the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, and it boasts a decades-long track record of exceptional care delivery, education, and innovation. Primary Duties

A.      Administrative and Educational Duties

As a Clinical Core Faculty Physician (CCFP), the incumbent will be expected to provide excellent patient care, bedside, teaching of residents, medical students, fellows, and other learners during shifts, as well as participate robustly in department educational activities, such as weekly resident, conference, mentorship, and didactic curriculum delivery. The CCFP should have a track record of demonstrated clinical excellence in emergency medicine patient care, and passion, experience and out-standing track record for teaching learners in all domains of the ABEM Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine.

As a CCFP at a premier academic institution the incumbent will be expected to participate in administrative functions of the department and hospital. This includes attending EM Faculty meetings and other departmental and institutional meetings as assigned by the Chair or Executive Vice Chair. All faculty are expected to dedicate sufficient effort to administrative and education duties to achieve excellent results.

B.      Clinical Duties

The CCFP will provide clinical coverage in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments and will be assigned shifts providing direct patient care, including nights, weekends, and holidays, according to DEM practices. The shift load may vary, at the discretion of the Chair, based on departmental needs. During shifts, the faculty member will be responsible for the supervision of various learners and ad-vanced practice providers, including medical students, nurse practitioners, resident physicians, fel-lows, as well as the provision of direct patient care. The faculty member will be expected to evaluate both learners and peers on a regular basis.

C.      Scholarly and Academic Activities

The CCFP will be expected to demonstrate scholarly activity sufficient to merit appointment at the academic rank of non-tenured Health Sciences Clinical Assistant Professor or higher in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The scholarly activity may take a variety of forms, as agreed to by the Chair or EVC, and may include publications, presen-tations, free open-access medical education, case reports, or other forms of academic scholarship.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
 

Faculty candidates must be board certified in Emergency Medicine by either the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. The CCFP must have experience and a track record of excellence in providing patient care and teaching in a high volume, tertiary care, academic medical center. Preference will be given for applicants with additional training or skill sets including advanced degrees, completion of fellowships, subspecialty certification, or unique practice experience that will be beneficial for patients and learners. Candidates willing to work a full-time nocturnist schedule will also receive preference. The candidate should have strong problem-solving capabilities and a demonstrated track record of teamwork and relation-ship building.
