Join the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital’s in the Specialty Medicine Service Line. Reporting to the Chief of Specialty Medicine and indirectly to the Chief of Medicine, the Dermatology Section Chief provides consultation services and follow up of medical sub-specialty patients, in the inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
The Section Chief of Dermatology, will be responsible for performing the following duties:
Participates and manages a diverse Dermatology Team that provides comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Dermatologic conditions in inpatient/outpatient settings
Documenting patient encounters and coding of visits accurately and timely
Evaluating, triage, and prioritizing Dermatology consult requests to ensure timely care for patients
Performing excisional or diagnostic skin biopsies and minor skin surgeries
Reviewing images from store and forward program to make treatment recommendations or determine urgency of face-to-face evaluations
Supervising providers in the dermatology section, including performance reviews and evaluations; ensuring providers are informed of and adherent to VA policies and procedures
Ensuring efficient operations of the dermatology section and dermatology clinics
Advancing the clinical, educational and research missions of VA
Participating in multidisciplinary/facility level process improvement teams and workgroups and committees as requested
Coordinating care at VA or non-VA referral centers for patients requiring services not provided at the facility such as MOHS surgery
Completing CME as required to maintain competency in Dermatology, medical licensure and board certification
HIPAA, Privacy and Security and other mandatory VA training in a timely manner
Performing other duties as appropriately assigned.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Board Certified/Eligible in Dermatology.
Must meet eligibility requirements for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine with Loyola Medical Center and the Stritch Medical School based upon qualifications and experience.
