The HealthCare Connection is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide executive-level clinical leadership across a growing, multi-site FQHC. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CMO is responsible for the overall quality, safety, and effectiveness of clinical services, while maintaining an active clinical presence. This role offers a consistent schedule, meaningful leadership impact, and the opportunity to serve an at-risk population in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Scope & Leadership
- Oversight of clinical care across 8 clinical sites
- Leadership responsibility for approximately X physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and clinical support staff
- Executive leadership role within the Senior Leadership Team
- Active participation in Board reporting and organizational strategy
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Quality
- Lead and oversee Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QA/PI) programs in compliance with HRSA, PCMH, and other regulatory standards
- Co-chair the Quality Improvement Committee, including review of patient complaints, grievances, and clinical outcomes
- Develop, implement, and maintain clinical guidelines, protocols, and standards of care
- Oversee credentialing and privileging processes for all clinical providers
Strategic & Executive Leadership
- Serve as the organization’s senior clinical executive and primary liaison between providers, executive leadership, and the Board
- Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team on strategic planning, organizational growth, and service integration
- Identify and address key clinical priorities such as:
- Improving patient adherence and access to care
- Integrating primary care with specialty and behavioral health services
- Reducing cost of care while improving outcomes
Physician & Staff Leadership
- Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to physicians and clinical leaders
- Lead provider recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning
- Oversee provider scheduling, call coverage, and after-hours clinical expectations
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Operational & Financial Collaboration
- Partner with senior leadership and department directors on annual clinical budgets, productivity, and month-over-month performance tracking
- Participate in the development of equitable physician compensation models
- Support managed care contracting, value-based care initiatives, and performance metrics
External & Community Engagement
- Represent THCC in community, state, and federal forums, healthcare networks, and public health partnerships
- Participate in grant development, program evaluation, and compliance activities
Clinical Practice
- Maintain direct patient care within scope of practice to remain clinically engaged and connected to patient experience
Requirements
Required
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted Ohio medical license
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or related primary care specialty
- Minimum 5 years of clinical practice, preferably in ambulatory, community health, or safety-net settings
- Minimum 3 years of executive or senior clinical leadership experience (e.g., CMO, Medical Director, Associate CMO)
- Demonstrated expertise in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and clinical operations
Preferred
- Prior experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or similar community health organization
- Familiarity with HRSA requirements, PCMH standards, and value-based care models
