Company Overview

Animal ER Care is a 16+ doctor, progressive emergency and critical care practice housed within the Veterinary Specialty Center (VSC) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A second location, AERC - Central, is opening in Fall 2022. Our vision is to treat each emergency with kindness, compassion, & integrity.

The Veterinary Specialty Center is a 24-hour small-animal specialty hospital serving our community through multiple practices including emergency, internal medicine, surgery (both soft tissue and orthopedics), dentistry, anesthesia, cardiology, and dermatology. Our emergency doctors work closely with many of the VSC board certified veterinary specialists. The VSC facility is fully equipped with endoscopy, bronchoscopy, digital radiology, multiple surgical suites with ventilators, ultrasound, CT scan, therapeutic laser, underwater treadmill, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Company History

On October 20, 2016 Gabrielle David, MJ "Sutton" Spanton & Dr. Ashley Sides became partners in ownership of Animal ER Care, LLC (AERC), previously known as Animal Emergency Care Centers. With all three partners having a goal of excellence in patient care and client service, they knew purchasing AECC from Dr. James Gaynor would be the first stepping stone to achieving that goal for Animal ER Care, LLC. Dr. James Gaynor acquired Animal Emergency Care in July 1994. In 1998 Animal Emergency Center was purchased from a local group of veterinarians, changing our name to Animal Emergency Care Centers (AECC) and allowing us to provide emergency and critical care services to the entire Colorado Springs and southern Colorado areas. Over the next several years AECC grew from 2 doctors and 4 employees to over 40 employees, staffing both our north and south facilities. Dr. Gaynor, Dr. Chris McReynolds (Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine) and Dr. Mike Bauer (Colorado Canine Orthpedics) created the Veterinary Specialty Center, which opened in April 2006 on North Nevada Avenue.
