The Associate/Vice President for Strategic Research on the Asset Management Multi-Asset Solutions Research team will work closely with the Head of Strategic Research to build out the long-term research agenda. Focus includes shaping and delivering the long term capital market assumptions (LTCMAs) program and creating the cycle aware capital market assumptions (CCMAs). LTCMA activities will include coordinating the weekly research process, driving topical research and contributing to forming assumptions in several key asset classes. Streamlining the process with AI/LLM/tech is also a key aim for the Strategic Research team. CCMAs are a new initiative focused on 3y and 5y return forecasts and creating the models and frameworks to do this will be a pivotal focus. In addition, taking the lead on some long-term research topics, and contributing to many others will be an ongoing expectation. We anticipate 4-6 papers per year, topics determined by MAS PM and IS input, in addition to the LTCMAs white paper.
In addition to the focus on strategic research and LTCMAs/CCMAs, the individual will asset on macro topics more broadly. We anticipate a ca. 80/20 time split strategic research/general macro
Job responsibilities:
- Support and guide the LTCMA program both from a research and operational perspective
- Produce clear, actionable research through written products and presentations by leveraging MAS, other LoBs, WM, Market insights, etc. using a combination of qualitative tools and quantitative approaches.
- Build models and dashboards to continually improve usability of the suite of LTCMA (and in time CCMA) tools on the desktops of all in MAS
- Collaborate with PMs and research analysts to evaluate cross-asset implications of strategic trends and to translate thematic ideas and macro trends to tradeable intermediate and long term portfolio positions
Required qualifications, skills and capabilities:
- 5+ years of experience in macro and multi-asset research, ideally at a buy-side investing firm.
- Strong grasp of fundamentals, valuations, and market mechanics for multiple asset markets
- Passion for exploring topical and thematic factors that define the longer term landscape of the economy, ability to sift the near term noise out of the structural and secular drivers of the economy and markets
- Strong ability to connect long-term fundamental research to multi-asset investing, including determining time horizon, catalysts, risk contribution etc.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative abilities; proficiency in data and modeling tools (Excel; Python, E-Views or R; familiarity with market data platforms).
- Clear and concise written and oral communication; comfortable presenting to investment teams under time constraints; collaborative, team-oriented, and high attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders who contribute to the LTCMAs from across JP Morgan Asset Management
Preferred qualifications, skills and capabilities:
