Description
DescriptionThe Center for Metastasis Research eXcellence (MET-X) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) is launching an open-rank faculty search for a wet laboratory and/or computational scientist to lead a research program focused on uncovering fundamental mechanisms of cancer metastasis using cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches.
We are seeking applicants who share our goals of: (i) Discovering unifying principles that enable and sustain cancer metastasis; and (ii) Developing curative paradigms based on these discoveries. The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a dynamic research environment that encourages taking bold risks, take advantage of forums and financial mechanisms to foster collaboration, and leverage robust physical and intellectual infrastructure for their scientific success.
We encourage applications from candidates who lack prior experience/publications on metastasis. In particular, candidates who have innovated high resolution, multi-dimensional approaches to study how cells function in context and are interested in applying these technologies to study metastasis are encouraged to apply. Scientists studying processes germane to metastasis (e.g., tissue regeneration) who wish to build a research program drawing cross-informative parallels are also encouraged to apply. We will consider PhD, MD/PhD, or MD scientists at all faculty rank levels (i.e., incoming Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors).
Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.
Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.
With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.
At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems.
Qualifications
For consideration, applicants must have a PhD, MD/PhD, MD or foreign equivalent. Expertise in applying and integrating high resolution, multi-dimensional approaches to study cancer metastasis and/or related processes is preferred.
Application Instructions
Please submit all application materials including:
1. CV
2. Three-page research statement describing current and future research interests
3. One-page Mentorship and Training statement addressing the following prompt: What is your mentorship philosophy and approach, and what has informed them? Please describe specific actions you have taken or plan to take to create a collaborative and effective training and mentorship environment in which all trainees and staff can thrive
4. Three confidential letters of recommendation. Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank should request letters of recommendation and ensure they are submitted by the application deadline. For applicants at the Associate and Full Professor rank, letters will be requested later in the search process.
Any application received by November 2, 2026 will be guaranteed consideration for the position. Applications that arrive after that date may be considered if the position remains open. Candidates may be invited for virtual interviews in December, 2026. In-person interviews will take place in January-February of 2027.
Please direct any questions related to this search to MET-X's program administrator: Ms. Eirin Krane (ekrane@fredhutch.org).
