- Full-Time Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic (CVT) Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant
Description
The Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic (CVT) Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive, specialized care for cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients in an inpatient-only setting. This full-time role primarily supports patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and CV Stepdown Unit, with a focus on managing complex post-operative patients.
The Advanced Practice Provider works collaboratively with CVT surgeons and a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care throughout the post-operative continuum and to support optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient care to cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery patients in the CVICU and CV Stepdown units.
- Conduct detailed patient assessments; develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
- Manage complex post-operative recovery, including hemodynamic monitoring and clinical decision-making within scope of practice.
- Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic studies; prescribe medications and therapies as indicated.
- Perform bedside procedures consistent with training, credentialing, and scope of practice.
- Collaborate closely with CVT surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and ancillary services to ensure coordinated care.
- Participate in patient and family education, discharge planning, and continuity-of-care initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with established clinical protocols, quality standards, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
- Accurately and timely document all aspects of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR).
Education & Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
Experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery or advanced practice nursing required.
- Prior CVICU experience strongly preferred.
Licensure & Certification
- Current RN license issued by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure.
- Nurse Practitioner license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions preferred.
- National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (or eligibility upon hire).
- Physician Assistant license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions preferred.
- National certification as a Physician Assistant required (or eligibility upon hire).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.

Compensation Range:
- Nurse Practitioner: $123,260.80 – $234,145.60 annually
- Physician Assistant: $110,406.40 - $209,768.00 annually
