Pain Management Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Reports to: Dr. Derek Watson
Location: North Raleigh and Wendell Falls
Status: Full-Time
Compensation: $125-$150K based on experience + Bonus Potential

OrthoNC is hiring a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Pain Management service line. This position is ideal for an APP who enjoys building long-term relationships with patients while managing chronic pain conditions through medication management, treatment plan oversight, and coordination of care. This provider will work closely with our physicians and interventional specialists, serving as the primary clinician responsible for ongoing pain management follow-up visits, medication monitoring, patient education, and care coordination. This role is solely focused on outpatient clinical care as opposed to procedural interventions. This is a unique opportunity to thrive in a high-volume, collaborative environment that provides outstanding care to non-operative spine patients in an outpatient setting.
What You’ll Do
- Provide comprehensive pain management care in clinical settings
- Evaluate and manage patients with chronic pain conditions, including:
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Radiculopathy
- Degenerative spine conditions
- Joint pain
- Neuropathic pain
- Post-surgical pain conditions
- Manage ongoing medication treatment plans, including:
- Opioid therapy
- Non-opioid pain medications
- Neuropathic medications
- Muscle relaxants
- Anti-inflammatory therapies
- Monitor compliance with pain management agreements and prescribing guidelines
- Review urine drug screens and prescription monitoring program reports
- Educate patients regarding medication safety, treatment expectations, and functional goals
- Collaborate with physicians, fellow APPs, and the broader clinical team
- Evaluate and manage patients independently and under physician supervision
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness and adjust care plans accordingly
- Maintain accruate and timely documentaton within the EMR system
What We’re Looking For
- Licensed NP or PA (board-certified) in North Carolina
- Experience in orthopedics or pain management preferred
- Quick-thinking, detail-oriented, and able to multitask efficiently
- Passionate about teamwork, communication, and patient-centered care
- Comfortable taking initiative, delegating tasks, and adapting to fast-paced settings
- A genuine interest in pain management care and a commitment to continuous growth
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills

Required Education & Experience
- Completion of an accredited NP or PA program
- Licensed as an NP or PA in North Carolina
- Board certification
- Active DEA license
- Ability to prescribe controlled substances
Preferred Education & Experience
- 2+ years of Pain Management experience
- Experience managing chronic opioid therapy
- Orthopedic, spine, PM&R, neurology, or pain medicine background
- Familiarity with North Carolina prescribing regulations
- Experience interpreting urine drug screens and prescription monitoring reports
