American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg and Infectious Disease unit requiring prior travel experience, Epic proficiency, and a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience.
Details- 18-bed Med/Surg and Infectious Disease unit with all private rooms in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes infectious disease, isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and other complex diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, or 1:4 for COVID patients; unit is typically staffed with 3–4 RNs per shift
- 2 CNAs are on the unit per shift
- Common IV medications include Heparin, antibiotics, and other standard Med/Surg drips; no cardiac drips are titrated
- No ventilators on the unit; patients may require CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen managed by respiratory therapy
- Remote telemetry monitored from a third-floor unit with desk monitors; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
- A Charge Nurse is available 24/7; night charge nurses carry a full patient assignment
- Charting is performed in Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730) with a 30-minute lunch break
- Every-other-weekend requirement; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Block scheduling is available based on unit needs
- 13-week contract
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Strong knowledge of Med/Surg, infectious disease, and isolation precautions required
- Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (if perm employment within last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility)
- Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
- Provide nursing care to patients with infectious diseases, including those in isolation precautions
- Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training and 1 day of floor orientation with a preceptor; independent assignment begins on day 3
- Travelers are the first to float and may be floated to other Med/Surg units; if floated to a telemetry unit, assignments will be within the nurse's skillset
- Travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs; holiday coverage may be required if permanent staff is insufficient
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be royal blue if worn — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (100-mile radius rule applies to certain other WVU facilities)
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered; cumulative time worked within WVU Medicine cannot exceed one year before a 2-year break is required
